Lenny Kravitz to Perform at Superbowl

Katy Perry says that Lenny Kravitz will join her Superbowl halftime act.

Katy Perry will have a special guest perform alongside her at this year’s Superbowl halftime show – none other than Lenny Kravitz!

The announcement was made at halftime during Saturday’s New England-Baltimore game when Katy told NBC’s Willie Geist that it would make her more cool to perform alongside 50-year-old Lenny.

Lenny published his latest album, Strut in September 2014, so the singer-songwriter will likely be promoting a new track or two to help boost sales.

Recent NFL Halftime Show Performers

Many believe that this is another smart move on the NFL’s behalf in effort to have more control over their Superbowl performers. Notably, having younger, more popular stars, rather than an aging, legendary rock band like so many Superbowl halftime performances brought to audiences in the past.

Last year’s Superbowl headliner, Bruno Mars, is a good example. The trending pop singer’s guest appearance came from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they didn’t even plug in their guitars. So who knows? Maybe Lenny won’t bother plugging in his guitar either!

If the NFL is trying to accommodate younger viewers with the performers they choose for the big game, some are asking why bother to invite a legendary performer at all. Perhaps it’s a back-up plan or maybe their also trying to appease older fans of the game.
