Today Robin Thicke and Paula Patton move one step closer to divorcing one another thanks to a judge granting their divorce. The couple is separated now, but will be officially divorce on April 14, 2015.

Robin and Paula were high-school sweethearts, but things started to fall apart for the couple a little over a year ago when it was reported they had separated. About six months ago, Paula filed for divorce stating “irreconcilable differences” for the reason their marriage failed. The couple had been married for nine years and have a four-year-old child named Julian that they share custody of.

In a joint statement issued by Robin and Paula, at the time of their separation, they said: “We will always love each other and be best friends; however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”

“The honest truth is it has been challenging, but it’s been a year of growth, lots of healing, learning about all new things, but I’ve come out of it stronger,” Paula said in a recent statement.

“My son’s happy,” the actress added. “And I feel like everything happens for a reason. And then you have to move on and grow from there.”

Thicke is dealing with quite a bit on his plate at the moment. Last week a jury found that his hit song Blurred Lines, which he created alongside music mastermind Pharrell Williams, was a copy of Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit Got to Give It Up and awarded Marvin’s family a $7.4 million settlement.
