Teresa Giudice Goes to Jail

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star heads off to prison today to begin serving out her 15-month sentence for bankruptcy fraud. Teresa reportedly showed up shortly after 12:00 a.m. accompanied by her attorney James J. Leonard Jr.

“I think she was anxious to get in, get this thing started, get it behind her, and get back to her family,” Leonard said in a statement. “Her four girls are her primary focus.”

Teresa Giudice’s Daughter Gia

The eldest of the four, Gia, shared her feelings about watching her mother leave their home to begin her stay at the federal penitentiary. “Support system is unreal,” she posted on Twitter. The young aspiring pop star also retweeted a message from her friend and fellow band member, Cristianna Cardinale: “The 2 strongest girls I know and nothing’s gonna change that.”

A picture of Teresa, Gia, Cristianna, and a family friend was also posted.

In preparation for serving her prison sentence, Teresa contacted other women who had recently served time at Danbury corrections facility. Leonard said his client was told to be “friendly, but guarded” and that she was given inspiring words, including telling her to “keep her head up” and that “she would make it through.”

Reports say that she may be eligible for visitation with her husband, Joe Giudice, and daughters as soon as the weekend.

Joe Giudice Prison Sentence

After Teresa’s 15-month prison stay, Joe will report to his state institute to begin serving his own 41-month sentence. The couple was allowed by the courts to pay their debts to society at separate intervals, so that they could provide for a parent to remain at home with their children at all times. Because Joe is not an American citizen, he may face deportation upon his release – a major concern for the Giudice family.

“Teresa is a very strong woman. She won’t have any problems in there,” Leonard told reporters.
